Collection
Have you ever heard a story that changed your life forever? 👀
Have you ever heard a story that changed your life forever? 👀
It happened to me, AND, inspired me to create my ‘Everything’s Gonna Be Okay’ collection.👌
Shortly after my son, Ari was born, I found myself living as a single mom.
Making ends meet all alone with a baby was a huge struggle for me.
I had been used to making a living and having free time to paint and be the artist that I was.🎨
All I could seem to find for employment was a variety of small jobs to pay our rent and bills. l woke up every day with a huge weight on my chest terrified about what the future would hold for me.
Clearly, I was on overload.🏋️
I adored being a mom. Ari was a bundle of joy, and I wanted him to stay happy without being affected by my struggles.
I felt like the woman I knew myself to be was slipping away.
It felt as if I was living my life inside of a maze.
Then, one beautiful sunny Spring day, my mother and I were sitting in her garden having some tea.
She began to tell me a compelling story about her life as a young single mom living through difficult times.
She had to move frequently with her first born child, Tommy. Affordable living spaces were hard to find and she often had to scramble around to quickly pack a few items as they moved from place to place leaving her exhausted.
Times were different back then and food and comfortable amenities were hard to come by for a mother with a small child.
It left her feeling sad and trapped.
One day, she and Tommy moved into a new furnished apartment where she noticed a sign on a wall that read: 'Everything 'Will' Be OK'
Here is a version I painted of the saying...

She told me that this message gave her hope and strength, helping her to persevere to survive.
She began to reminisce about her childhood in Europe when she went to an Italian school for girls. She loved the language and the people. She longed to go back and visit the places her family visited during the warm summer months. She felt a burning desire to go there and make a life with little Tommy.
She scraped together every last penny she had and decided to buy two one way plane tickets to Italy.🇮🇹
She and Tommy soon boarded a plane and traveled to the Amalfi Coast arriving in beautiful Positano, which became their home for the next two years.

This is Positano, Italy in the 1950's.
It was brave for such a young mother to take such a leap.
At that time, Positano was a small pristine village set above the seaside.
There was one small bus that drove in circles around the village and hardly any cars in sight.
Lemon trees blossomed throughout the
village streets.🍋🪴
The natives were welcoming and warm and loved young Tommy.
My mother told me about two girls living next door. They played with Tommy pretending to be chickens. He watched with pure wonder. They demonstrated that they were about to lay an egg and, Voila! One of the girls made an egg appear like magic. Tommy was in a trance over the unexpected surprise.🥚
That's Tommy on the bottom right looking bewildered!
The two older girls in the back are the chicken pretenders.

My mother told me that she felt happy and serene in Positano.
She took a job working in a local hotel and was able to follow her passion to write books while sitting out on the veranda of their apartment with pen in hand and a fresh pad of paper. ✍️

Reflecting on the sign, 'Everything's Gonna Be Ok' gave her a constant reminder that she COULD remain calm and strong and make it through the hardships she and little Tommy had to endure.
And, thankfully, she did.
Her inner perseverance, bravery and ability to follow her passion helped me to reflect on my own life.
Listening to her intensely challenging and similar story to mine, was a gift of encouragement, and helped me to feel inspired and fearless.
So, I took out my paint brushes and began to paint.
I felt a sense of wonder and freedom.
My struggles were transforming into something beautiful.
I became lost in a sea of optimism and joy.
The vibrant colorful shapes and patterns I was painting allowed me to wander and discover.
For the first time ever, I felt like I was being true to myself.
Now, I felt unstuck and grounded with a deep sense of satisfaction.
My paintings had become a reminder that ‘Everything's Gonna Be Okay’.
